Justice for Imran Khan; End solitary confinement(UK)

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan remains trapped in extreme solitary confinement at Adiala Jail while Pakistan's judicial system is systematically stripped of its independence. Following the passage of the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, judicial independence has been effectively dismantled, allowing state authorities to operate with total impunity.

Despite suffering up to 85% vision loss in his right eye from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), state authorities actively circumvented Supreme Court directives to transfer him to Shifa International Hospital under an independent medical board. Executive-controlled judicial structures permit his continuous isolation, over 23 hours a day without human contact, violating Rules 43 and 44 of the UN Nelson Mandela Rules and amounting to severe psychological torture.

Demand Immediate Action To:

Stop using post-26th/27th Amendment judicial controls to block fundamental rights and subvert court directives.
Transfer Imran Khan immediately to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive care under an independent medical board alongside his personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan.

I am writing to you as your constituent to urgently request that you raise your voice in Parliament and write directly to Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to demand immediate intervention to deliver Justice for Imran Khan, secure an immediate end to his unlawful detention, and address the severe human rights violations, medical neglect, and systemic judicial compromise surrounding the former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Key Legal & Human Rights Violations
•	Erosion of Judicial Independence (26th Amendment): The passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment has severely compromised judicial independence by placing judicial appointments, panel selection, and court administration under executive control. With domestic courts subjected to intense political and military interference, true Justice for Imran Khan can no longer be guaranteed within this compromised legal framework unless his legal proceedings are subjected to independent international trial observers [1].
•	UN Ruling on Arbitrary Detention: The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (Opinion No. 22/2024) explicitly determined that Mr. Khan’s detention has no legal basis, violates international law, and was designed to disqualify him from political participation. The UN called for his immediate, unconditional release and full restoration of his rights [2].
•	UN Official Findings & Mandela Rules Violation on Psychological Torture: UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Alice Jill Edwards, issued an official warning regarding Mr. Khan's detention conditions in Adiala Jail. She explicitly confirmed that holding Mr. Khan in cell isolation for 23 hours a day without meaningful human contact exceeds permissible limits under international law and constitutes a form of psychological torture under Rules 43 and 44 of the UN Nelson Mandela Rules [3].
•	Severe Retinal Condition & Vision Loss: Most alarmingly, Mr. Khan has suffered severe vision loss in his right eye due to Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) caused by blood clotting and delayed medical intervention while in isolation. Despite explicit court directives, his personal doctor, Dr. Faisal Sultan, continues to be barred from independently evaluating his condition, leaving a 73-year-old former world leader at imminent risk of permanent blindness [3, 4].
•	Blockade of Family and Legal Access: Family visitations have been systematically restricted. His sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, was last permitted regular access on 5th December 2025 , and following judicial interventions, his sister Noreen Khan was granted only brief, restricted access on 18th August 2026  . His British sons and legal counsels remain largely cut off [3].
•	Circumvention of Judicial Directives: While the Supreme Court took long-overdue action to order his transfer to Shifa International Hospital and restore family visitation rights, state authorities have systematically subverted these rulings. Rather than executing a full transfer, prison authorities substituted it with brief, unannounced government hospital evaluations (which are heavily influenced by authorities and cannot be trusted for independent care) before returning him immediately to prison isolation without necessary medical care. That domestic courts remain powerless to get their explicit orders enforced underscores the complete erosion of judicial authority in Pakistan [4, 5].
Quiet diplomatic monitoring is no longer an acceptable approach while a former Commonwealth leader’s health, vision, and basic rights are systematically dismantled.

Requested Action from the UK Foreign Secretary:

I ask that you present these facts on the floor of the House of Commons and urge Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to:
1. Demand Justice for Imran Khan & International Trial Oversight: Call for the immediate release of Imran Khan in accordance with UN WGAD Opinion No. 22/2024. Insist that any ongoing or future legal proceedings be subjected to direct monitoring by independent international trial observers to counter executive interference under the 26th Amendment [1, 2].
2. End Solitary Confinement & Cease Psychological Torture: Demand an immediate end to cell isolation conditions that UN experts have explicitly classified as psychological torture under the UN Nelson Mandela Rules [3].
3. Restore Immediate Doctor & Family Access: Insist that his personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan, be granted immediate access to evaluate his vision condition, and restore regular, unhindered visits for his sisters (Aleema Khan, Dr. Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan) and his sons [3].
4. Enforce Judicial Decisions: Demand that Pakistani authorities fully respect the directives of independent courts regarding hospital transfers without administrative or military circumvention [4, 5].
5. Take Direct Diplomatic Action: Summon the Pakistani High Commissioner in London and coordinate joint diplomatic pressure alongside US and Commonwealth allies.
